Villa Särkiniemi

Villa Särkiniemi offers assisted living for youth and adults on the autism spectrum next to lake Kallavesi. The wooden service home has two buildings: a one-story group home with day-and-night assistance, and a two-story row house for more independent living. The buildings envelop a beautiful courtyard sheltered by the eaves the roof. The roof has a playful, origami-like shape that harmoniously descends towards the yard. The buildings have load-bearing exterior log walls, and the group home's structure consists also of wooden beams and columns. All spaces are designed with human scale and senses in mind. Communal spaces and staff areas are situated near the inner yard, leaving the quieter, outward facing spaces for apartments. The architecture of Villa Särkiniemi aims to make life beautiful, peaceful, and sensory-friendly.
